Hello again, Tweets! :D I followed up my day in Whatcom County with a day of birding on Whidbey Island (Island County). I had seen the post from the Websters from last weekend, and there are some active ebirders on the island, so I had a lot of bread crumbs to follow! I started the day again hoping to find a Barn Owl (this time at Deer Lagoon), and finding a Great Horned Owl instead, at the intersection of Bayview and Sunlight Beach Road. From there, to be honest, it would be unwise to recount the places I went sequentially... I had offered a ride to marathoners (no.. not like that.. just to the expo, the race is tomorrow), I had an important mug purchase to complete, and I made more than one trip to a couple places to try to catch the water at a better level.... so the highlights by location: Deception Pass: Loons and grebes in breeding plumagePenn Cove: Black Turnstones and 4 SurfbirdsEwing Street Marsh: American Bittern and Cinnamon Teal. Swallows, including one BarnDeer Lake area: Singing Townsend's Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Brown Creepers and Purple Finch; Osprey at the Lake, along with scads of swallows.Lone Lake: Five species of swallow (Barn, Cliff, Tree, Violet-green and Northern Rough-winged)Hastie Lake Beach Access: Black OystercatchersDeer Lagoon: Merlin, Kingfisher, California Quail, Black-bellied Plover, Common Yellowthroat, Greater Yellowlegs and Dunlin. There were other peeps here, but they flew overhead, then left before they could be ID'd.Crockett Lake: Orange-crowned Warbler, Brown-headed Cowbird, and 20 Black-bellied Plovers in breeding plumage.Bos Lake: Wilson's Snipe... sitting in a driveway... letting me watch him from less than ten feet away. It was rainy-sunny-rainy-sunny-rainy-sunny all day, and mostly rainy at the start, so I didn't.... erm.. keep a complete list of birds seen everywhere I went... so I know the total was at least 92, but there are some birds like Steller's Jay that I may have seen... but I couldn't remember for sure.
