Hi Tweeters,

A visit to Woodland Bottoms today (4/16/13) was fruitful when at 10:30 I
relocated the BRANT reported by Jeff yesterday a mile north of the Lewis
River along Dike Road. A return visit at 1:30 PM found the field without
the Brant or its Cackler friends.

At a Dike Road access to the Columbia between Caples and Whalen Roads I was
surprised to find a flock of 87 WESTERN GREBES including a couple pairs
doing the dance across the water. The wintering birds had been gone for
some time. But even more surprising was an 88th bird with a bright orangey
bill - eye clearly below the black - lots of white in the flanks and a
grayer back than the others. A CLARKS GREBE.

This was 2 county birds in less than an hour in my home county for me; it
has been awhile since that's happened.
