Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday April 18. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On April 14 a CARACARA was reported from Cape Blanco. The LITTLE BUNTING at
Joseph and the Coos Bay COMMON EIDER were seen during the week. The male
TUFTED DUCK was seen again on the Columbia River near the Portland Airport
along with a female RED-BREASTED MERGANSER.

There was a heavy warbler movement April 13 in the Rogue Valley including
about 1000 YELLOW-RUMPED and 500 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS. A MACGILLIVRAY?S
WARBLER , two WESTERN KINGBIRDS and a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK were also part
of the movement. The warbler movement was also noted that day at Skinner?s
Butte in Eugene including a CASSIN?S VIREO and a HAMMOND?S FLYCATCHER.
There was a major movement of VAUX?S SWIFTS through Western Oregon during
the week with many at chimneys. Large numbers of TUFTED PUFFINS are now back
at Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach.

On April 16 a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was at Flores Lake. A SWAINSON?S HAWK was
seen April 11 at Cape Arago near Coos Bay. A BAIRD?S SANDPIPER was
photographed April 16 at Tahkenitch Creek south of Florence. The ROCK
SANDPIPER and SNOW BUNTING are still being seen on Barview Jetty at
Tillamook Bay. At least 65 PIGEON GUILLEMOTS were gathered there April 11.

On April 12 an ARCTIC TERN was at Bonneville Dam. It was seen again the next
day. Two CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS were at Ridgefield April 13, one was in
Corvallis April 17, and one was at Skinner?s Butte in Eugene April 12. On
April 14 two WHITE PELICANS were over Newberg. A GOLDEN EAGLE was near West
Linn April 15. A bright male REDPOLL was photographed April 17 in Carlton.
On April 15 a PALM WARBLER was at Ankeny NWR. The next day one was at
Minto-brown Park in Salem. A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was photographed during the
week at Fern Ridge Reservoir. A SANDHILL CRANE was at Camas Slough near
Creswell April 15.

On April 14 a flock of 149 ROSS?S GEESE were at Ladd Marsh near LaGrande.
