Subject: [Tweeters] Birding trip gone sour-Tacoma to Everett to Tacoma

Hearing that a Pacific Golden Plover had been seen on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Jetty Island in Everett, we headed out Sunday morning-only an hour?s drive, $3 parking and a free ferry. We didn?t arrive until 11:45, paid our $3 (actually twice) and walked to the dock. The sign there said ?Take a boarding pass?, but the soonest departure time available meant an hour and 45 minute wait, but we decided to wait it out in the ?no show? line, hoping for earlier departure. Standing there, we noticed a second sign for return rides and the earliest available was 5:45pm or 6 hours from our arrival.

6 hours, most of it on an island with no shade, 80 degrees, 75 years old; I think not.

So, we went back home, completed the 100 mile round trip with no birds seen.

Too bad that the Jetty Island web site made no mention that the ferry was ridiculously undersized to handle August Sunday crowds.
