Yesterday morning a single immature Franklin's
Gull was seen at the Stanwood STP by two excellent
birders who notified me. I had to make the
decision whether to go to Puyallup and try for the
GTGR or to the STP. I just the latter and along
with a number of others was too late for the early
morning visits. I left there around 2:00 and
decided to try for the Franklin's Gull anyhow ...
weighing whether I could stand a double dip in a
single day. Traffic as usual was abominable so I
got to the STP around 4:00. A single immature
bird was still there. Not seen was the Wilson's
Phalarope that had also been seen earlier. I see
that this morning Steve Giles had two immatures
there so perhaps they will stay around.

Tomorrow I hope to hit Puyallup again. For a bird
that was seen perhaps 1000 times in Texas earlier
this year...what has happened to me. Recalls what
Greg Thompson said earlier this week...most of our
birds are not unusual ... just unusual that they
are here. So true in this case.
