Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 22. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On August 17 an immature BROAD-WINGED HAWK was photographed in the Rock
Creek Section of Hillsboro. That day a possible HUDSONIAN GODWIT was at
Yaquina Bay.

Small flocks of ELEGANT TERNS are now being seen all along the coast and
into Washington. The shorebird movement continues with BAIRD?S SANDPIPERS
conspicuous.

On August 18 a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER, 21 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and a RUDDY
TURNSTONE were at Bandon. A STILT SANDPIPER was at the South Jetty of the
Columbia River August 20. On August 17 two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were on
Sauvie Island. That day an active BANK SWALLOW colony was observed near
Rooster Rock State Park on the north side of Sand Island.

On August 16 a CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was at a Corvallis feeder. A
CLAY-COLORED and a BREWER?S SPARROW were reported during the week near the
Royal Avenue gate at Fern Ridge Reservoir. A LONG-BILLED CURLEW, 10
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, and three PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS were at Fern Ridge
during the week. Up to three male and two female GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES were
seen during the week at Emigrant Lake south of Ashland.

Two BLACK SWIFTS were seen during the week at Tumalo Falls west of Bend. On
August 21 a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER was at the Redmond Sewage Ponds. At
Prineville Reservoir August 15 was a COMMON TERN, and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER.
On August 17 a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 20 COMMON TERNS, and 700 WHITE PELICANS
were at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend.
