I apologize for the lateness of this report. On Thursday morning, George Neavoll and I walked the lower part of the Cape Horn Trail (off Hwy 14, Skamania Co.) in search of the male Hooded Warbler that has been present for some time. We started at 7:45 and walked up the switchbacks of the upper trail to just below the wooden steps. The woods were rather quiet, and on the trail back down we heard some warbler chips, followed by the song of the Hooded Warbler. We heard and observed this warbler regularly between 9:05 and 9:30. Other warblers present were Black-throated Gray and Wilson's. We were surprised at both the lack of bird sounds most of the morning and also the insistent singing of the Hooded Warbler. Perhaps other Oregon birders will wish to chase this bird just across the border.

Cheers,

Tim Shelmerdine
