Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 29. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

Up to seven GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES are now gathered at Emigrant Lake near
Ashland. On August 23 a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at Malheur NWR
Headquarters. The Cape Horn HOODED WARBLER continues to be reported.

ELEGANT TERNS are now increasing along the coast. On August 27, 111 were at
Warrenton along with about a thousand HEERMANN?S GULLS. Heavy shorebird
movements continue with BUFF-BREASTED and PECTORAL SANDPIPERS arriving
during the week. The most out of place shorebird was the WANDERING TATTLER
photographed August 23 at the Narrows at Malheur NWR. WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
are now arriving as are early migrant PINTAILS and SHOVELERS. VAUX?S SWIFTS
are now being seen at evening roost Chimneys.

On August 24 a juvenile RED KNOT was at the Siltcoos River mouth south of
Florence. That day a WILLET and seven MARBLED GODWITS were at Florence. On
August 21 two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS and 13 WHIMBRELS were on Nedonna Beach
near the South Jetty of Nehalem Bay. A RUFF is now being seen at the South
Jetty of the Columbia River.

About 25 WHITE PELICANS continue at the Fernhill Wetlands at Forest Grove.
Shorebirding is good there now. On August 24 two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were at
Ankeny NWR. A RED PHALAROPE was photographed August 25 at the Philomath
Sewage Ponds. A male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD is now coming to a feeder
near Drain.

A possible CALIFORNIA TOWHEE was reported August 23 at Cow Camp near Crane
Prairie Reservoir south of Bend. On August 25 four BLACK SWIFTS were near
Redmond. A RED PHALAROPE was seen August 27 at Hatfield Lake. Up to 22
COMMON TERNS were at Wickiup Reservoir August 25. Another was at the
LaGrande Sewage Ponds the same day. On August 27 a REDSTART and a CATBIRD
were among the many migrants at Malheur NWR Headquarters.
