The reported Swamp Sparrow at the end of Mounts Rd. was observed today around 1:30 p.m. Driving North, go past Nisqually Wildlife Refuge, cross into Pierce County and Mounts Rd. will be the first exit. From the North heading South, go past Dupont and the next exit will be Mounts. On Mounts head west, cross under railroad bridge and go to where the road ends and there is a turnaround area. Park and walk back up the road about 100-150 ft. to the first telephone pole on your left. Pish from here. Many Song Sparrows and one winter plumage Swamp Sparrow. The bird was mainly in the cattails but came close into a small tree. On the way back, look for Easterday Rd. on the right. Go to the very end where there is a house with bird feeders. Many sparrows, towhees and one White-throated Sparrow.
