I have been bringing my hummer feeders in at night to keep them from feezing.? Although daytime temps on my back deck have not risen above freezing for several days, my feeders are exposed to direct sunlight and have not frozen during the day.? Recalling high school chemistry, addition of sugar to water will lower the freezing point of the water from 32*F (0*C).?

I put wool socks over my 3 feeders this past week and added hand warmers to help keep them from freezing. Our temps have been in the teens and twenties during the day. The male Andy poked the sock to see what it was doing there. He's so cute all puffed up in his downy feathers. It's amazing how they can survive the freezing temps.

I have two Slate-colored Juncos wintering with a large flock of juncos using my feeders.
