Myself and two other birders went looking for snowy owls yesterday, we
dipped on them at Edie road and other locales on the Skagit. We headed
up to Boundary Bay, just over the border in Canada (exit 20 off of 99
onto Ladner trunk road, left on 72nd street and park at the end of the
road) where we found five snowy owls and many short eared owls. Not even
close to the numbers that were there two years ago, I am unsure about
the irruption but this is a very good place to look for them sitting on
logs near the waters edge. You will need a scope for good looks.
