Participating in the annual Audubon Christmas bird counts gets you in to the otherwise off-limits NWRefuges.
The rangers know how many Laysan Albatross nests there are, but you are very close, and get to do it, too.
As you walk among the taro patches in the Hanalei NWR, you not only count the endangered species, but
stare at the tilapia jumping the dikes on their fins.
