Hello all,
Walla Walla County finished off 2012 with 262 species - previous record 256. Off to a great start for 2013 - several groups were out yesterday birding and thanks to the combined effort (and mild weather!) we broke our previous records and went over 100 for the first day of the year. Highlights:
COMMON REDPOLL - at Goodhews feeder
RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER - continuing bird at Hood Park
LAPLAND LONGSPUR - on Dodd road
RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS - 9 at 2Rivers
MEW GULL - Ice Harbor Dam
THAYER'S GULL - Ice Harbor Dam
LONG-EARED OWLS - north of Prescott
N. SAW-WHET OWL - Charbonneau Park
EVENING GROSBEAKS - at Bennington Lake
TRUMPETER SWAN - McNary NWR
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER - McNary
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER - our yard
BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS - our yard
CASSIN'S FINCH - our yard
ROCK WREN - near Ice Harbor Dam
PACIFIC WREN - McNary
MARSH WREN - McNary
TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD - poop piles
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD - poop piles
AMERICAN TREE SPARROW - north of Prescott
Merlin, Peregrine and Prairie Falcon
Spotted Towhees in several places - but we missed Hermit Thrush!
Mountain Chickadees and both Kinglets at Charbonneau park
missed Common Snipe, Redhead, Dunlin, Wild Turkey. Anna's Hummer seen 31st but not on the 1st!
We just needed one more team to cover the foothills - Pine Grosbeaks were seen the 31st up Scenic View!
