Hi Tweeters,

This afternoon a group of us went searching for the Red-shouldered
Hawk found by Kevin Lucas yesterday. We saw it almost as soon as we
got out of the cars. It landed in a tree on the west side of the
pasture that is west of the Yakima River and south of Parker Bridge
Road. We heard it calling numerous times. It flew south, then after a
while flew north along the river, landing in a tree near the bridge
where others got good looks at it.

A photo of this new bird on the Yakima County list can be seen in the
new photos folder on my website:

If you are interested in trying to find this hawk here are directions:

Take Exit 40 off I-82 south of Union Gap; turn right (if you came from
the north; left if you came from the south) onto the Yakima Valley
Highway; go less than a mile and take the first right turn onto the
Parker Bridge Road. Park when you get across the bridge. The hawk
could be in any of the trees in the vicinity of the bridge. You can
drive south from the Parker Bridge Road on the Yakima Valley Highway
stopping to scan the trees across the river or you can walk down the
dirt road on the west side of the river.
