I had some business to attend to in West Seattle
and decided to do a "Mini Census" of birds along
Alki on my way. Astounding number of grebes!!!

Around 11:15 a.m.

12 Red Necked Grebes
47 Horned Grebes
300+ Western Grebes (Did not scan to see if there
just might be a Clark's. Is one possible there?)
6 Red Breasted Mergansers
27 Bufflehead
2 Harlequin Ducks
3 Barrow's Goldeneyes
5 Surf Scoters
15 Brant
32 Double Crested Cormorants
6 Sanderling
1 Song Sparrow
15 Pine Siskins
12+ Crows
1 Common Loon
Gulls - did not count nor sort.

The Western Grebes were mostly in a super large
raft towards the western end of Alki. The Horned
Grebes were scattered but there was a congregation
of 14 at one place (eastern end of Alki).
