This morning I glanced out the window and saw a large bird with a huge
hazelnut in its mouth. Then I put on my glasses, I saw that the "hazelnut"
was his beak. Ha! Not only that, he was an EVENING GROSBEAK who was
accompanied by at least 60 more of his ilk, both male and female!

Within a few minutes, the Grosbeaks were joined by 20 or so PINE SISKINS
along with the usual GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, an occasional DARK-EYED JUNCO,
one SONG SPARROW and at least 6 SPOTTED TOWHEES.

A chilly NORTHERN FLICKER was waddling around the potted plants and eating.
That's the first time I've seen Flickers in our yard walk instead of hop.
She was awkward. An invading squirrel flushed her out of the yard.

A BROWN CREEPER was making the rounds in the lichen on our oak tree.
