There are always crows in the parking lot at the QFC on Northgate Way, but this morning at around 8:20 they looked different. Almost every one of the 20 or so crows we saw had large parts of their wings and tails and the backs of their heads covered in frost! The gray color was visible for some distance. We sacrificed part of a donut to bring them in all around the car for some photos.

I don't think I have ever seen a frosty bird before. I presume this happened on their roost. I wonder if they all sleep with bills tucked into their scapulars, thus frost on the back of the head. With temps in the mid 20s and no sun on them they remained frosty!
