Comments: On Jan 14, 2013 Stan Wood and Sharon Aagaard were joined, from 8 am to 11:45 am, by 9 other birders at Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah, WA for the monthly bird walk offered by Eastside Audubon. It was a cloudy morning with no rain, temperatures ranged 28-36 degrees, with little to no wind (2 mph). Our group was made up mostly of "regulars," and two enthusiastic, new birders. Our next monthly walk is FEBRUARY 11. HIGHLIGHTS: the 3 SWAN GEESE first reported in early Fall by Ken Grant are still to be found near the east beach and along Issaquah Creek; 1 PEREGRINE FALCON swooped fast and low within twenty feet of our group then flew and perched in a nearby Cottonwood tree; 2 RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS were tending their various sapwells, and "mewing." Note that on a walk on Friday, Jan 11, I saw a NORTHERN SHRIKE, 2 HUTTON'S VIREOS and a YELLOW-SHAFTED FLICKER. For those interested, the complete list of 48 species for 1/14 follows:
