Today Sherry and I hiked the Cape Horn Trail in the gorge, WA side, and found a singing male HOODED WARBLER. The bird sang from the Maple trees and moved around. I was not familiar with the song, so we spent some time looking for this bird. We finally spotted it, and boy, we were surprised. Cell phone out, no signal. Walked a little further up the trail, signal. Thank you Lonnie for still being in town to get the word out. After that, we continued along the trail, which had great views of the Columbia River Gorge.
The trail starts at a park and ride on Salmon Falls Rd., just off HWY 14. The parking lot is on the right and the trail starts on the left. Take the upper trail, it switch backs 6 or 7 times before coming to the area were we had the bird. I marked a thin snag leaning up against a tree on the right side with white tape. The tape is about 7ft up, and the area is fairly level. This bird might stick around. It seemed to be calling on territory and after reading Wilson?s report, the bird moves around.

On our way back home, we swung into Ridgefield NWR and walked the Kiwa Trail. We saw the continuing BLACK TERNS.
