does anyone know how well programs like the following do in reality? this
one was touted by a just-received scientific american article (
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=pogue-8-recognition-apps-work-almost-like-magic
):

*Bird Song ID *(?3, about $4.60; iOS): It's Shazam for birdsong. Record a
bird's warble?the cleaner the recording, the better the luck you'll
have?and let the app tell you what species you're hearing. No
Internet<https://www.scientificamerican.com/topic.cfm?id=internet>connection
required for this task.

apparently, it won't work for me (android), but i do wonder how well
programs like this DO work... thanks!
