Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday July 25. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On July 18 a ship 80-90km off Curry County observed three ?dark-rumped
petrels?, one of which was identified as a HAWAIIAN PETREL. A MURPHY?S
PETREL was also seen. Early migrants seen on this trip were eight RED
PHALAROPES, 20 SABINE?S GULLS, 13 ARCTIC TERNS, and five LONG-TAILED
JAEGERS.

On the jetty at the Hammond Boat Basin July 22 were about ten WHIMBRELS,
five MARBLED GODWITS, and 50 dowitchers.

On July 20 a pair of LAZULI BUNTINGS were on Sauvie Island. The next day a
singing GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was at the Sandy River Delta. On July 24 two
TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were photographed at the Fernhill Wetlands. Two
families of WILSON?S PHALAROPES are now being seen at Jackson Bottom in
Hillsboro. At Ankeny NWR July 22 were a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and five
juvenile WILSON?S PHALAROPES. At Fern Ridge Reservoir July 22 were a
BLACK-NECKED STILT, two AVOCETS, 35 GREATER and eight LESSER YELLOWLEGS, Two
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 150 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and a WILSON?S
PHALAROPE.

Several pairs of GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS are apparently nesting this summer at
Ladd Marsh WA near Lagrande.
