A week ago I heard an interesting bird call out in Snohomish, that I could'nt quite place. Trying to get a look at the bird, I managed to fall down a slope of blackberries and nettles, which sure was exciting. The bird sounded like some sort of raptor.



Yesterday, while working a 1/4 mile down the road, I heard the call again, this time on level ground, away from thorns. Young Cooper's Hawks were the bird, as it turned out. As others have been posting on tweeters about young Cooper's lately, the birds ( a group of three), were circling overhead, and in and out of trees and acting a bit doofy, as if they still had their accipiter version of training wheels on.



The call was just a single note, unlike the staccato Cooper's call I've heard in the past. Maybe some small birds would disagree, but I thought it nice to see a new crop of Coopers Hawks.
