Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 1. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On July 30 a Hawaiian Petrel was seen 85 miles west of Curry County

Noticeable northward movements of immature CALIFORNIA GULLS were seen along
the coast during the week. Among birds seen on a pelagic trip out of Newport
July 27 was a LAYSAN ALBATROSS, LONG-TAILED JAEGER, and three RED
PHALAROPES. On July 29 a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Bandon and a WILLET near
Langlois. On July 30 a RUDDY TURNSTONE was south of Florence. A FRANKLIN?S
GULL was at Pacific City July 28. Up to four TATTLERS have recently been
seen at Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach. On July 29 a RUDDY TURNSTONE was
with a small group of BLACK TURNSTONES at Seaside The next day a breeding
plumaged SURFBIRD was there.

The TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD continues at the Fernhill Wetlands. A lone
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE is still being seen at the Koll Center Marsh in
Beaverton. A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER was at Ankeny NWR July 27. A FRANKLIN?S
GULL and a BREWER?S SPARROW were at the Philomath Sewage Ponds July 28.
During the week a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER, a TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD, two
BREWER?S SPARROWS, and a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW were at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On July 28 a pair of BLACK-NECKED STILTS with young were at Wickiup
Reservoir. A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and a MARBLED GODWIT were at Summer Lake
SWA July 24. ON July 26 a MARBLED GODWIT was at Ladd Marsh SWA near
LaGrande.

At Lake Abert July 23 were 6800 EARED GREBES, 170 IBIS, 500 BLACK-NECKED
STILTS, 3000 AVOCETS, 200,000 WILSON?S PHALAROPES and 30,000 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES. 4000 CALIFORNIA GULLS were also in the area.
