At the risk of sounding pedantic (who me?)? that was probably a Western Rattlesnake in Umptanum.? The Western Diamondback is a southern species extending far into Mexico with a range in Southern CA, AZ, NM Texas into Arkansas.

It and even more?the Eastern Diamondback are snakes for birders?to really be aware of because although the last thing they want is to encounter you at all, they can and occasionally do?kill adult humans.? Our Rattlesnake, the charming Western Rattlesnake, is something you really don't want to get bit by ever ever?but the fear of that snake can be ramped down quite a bit from the Diamondback, since as far as I know it's never killed anyone.

Here on Beacon Hill the migration is petering along.? Yesterday at Butyl Creek were Yellow and Wilson's Warbler, Western Tanager, Swainson's Thrush and the creek has gained a delightful?guardian angel, a female Rufous Hummingbird. Normally, it's all-Anna's-all-the-time this time of year.
