The hot birds were clearly out in the northwest, but I found a few good ones in the eastern half of CLALLAM CO Saturday, while scouting the area for out-of -town visitors Diane and Tony that came in from New Jersey. We found additional birds yesterday, June 2. Highlights were as follows:

CACKLING GOOSE 1 (late--Pond Reclamation Park south of Carrie Blake Park both days)

Cinnamon Teal 1, BW Teal 3--Helen's Pond June 1

Bufflehead 1--late bird with preceding

RUDDY DUCK 2 (striking males on Kitchen Dick ponds, rare and local in county)

NORTHERN GOSHAWK 2--adult soaring over FS Rd 2860 near trailhead for Royal Creek June 2;
second bird nearby also; rare local breeder n.e. Olympics

Com. Nighthawk 1--FOY (FOS) dusk June 1 over central Jimmy-Come-Lately Rd.

AM. THREE-TOED WOODPECKER 1--adult seem point-blank along FS 28 headed southbound
in direction of Bon Jon Pass; elev only about 2700'; approx. 7 miles south of fork in road with Dungeness Forks (2880); very rare in county

Cassin's Vireo 2--hard to find this year per Bob, pair at confluence of O'Brien Rd and Hidden Valley Rd June 1-2

Willow Flycatcher--widespread arrivals over weekend, first near Carrie Blake June 1

W. Bluebird 1--at least one seen from Hidden Valley Rd at nest box

Townsend's Solitaire 1--one along FS 2860/70 southbound in direction of Royal Creek trailhead;
love that bullfinch-like note

Am. Pipit 1--late single at Graysmarsh beach June 1

the expected 9 warbler species, including:

pure female HERMIT WARBLER matched with male TOWNSEND'S June 1 along FS 2870, first overlook/pulloff heading southward toward Royal Creek trailhead; another pure female HERMIT seen point-blank at traditional stake-out about one mile past and uphill east of Royal Creek trailhead, near the end of FS 2860 and trailhead for Mt. Townsend; June 2. Several hybrids also in the area as usual.

Bullock's Oriole--1 male at Carrie Blake Park early June 2, rare and local in Clallam.

OTHER NOTES--Graysmarsh public beach access and Holland Rd edge had evidence of a number of migrant passerines still around, including about 12 Yellow and 3 MacGillivray's Warblers June 1,
and several latish Pacific-slope Flycatchers were in clearly migrant spots nearby. A possible Eastern Kingbird was at Carrie Blake June 1, but it was heard-only a couple times and I was not sure.
