A lovely cool summer morning, not too bright and not too windy to start,
but the breezes picked up by mid-morning making finding the birds a little
more challenging. Nothing too unusual but lots of feeding activity.
Highlights included:
Northern Shoveler female with two young in tow - first breeders I've seen
at the parkRed-tailed Hawk being chased by two Cooper's Hawks and an
American Crow. When the hawk reached Promontory Point, the Coops stayed in
the trees there and the crow couldn't figure out which bird to chase; it
turned back to the wetlands.Killdeer - appears that all the families have
fledged as there were many youngEurasian Collared-Dove - flying over
wetlandsRufous Hummingbird - two adult femalesPacific Slope (quiet) and
Willow Flycatcher (FOY) plus calling Western Wood-PeweeYellow Warbler -
several; one carrying foodBlack-headed Grosbeak - the Uplands; FOYLazuli
Bunting - a pair flying about the North Lagoon; not far from last year nest
locationBullock's Oriole - one on Kite Hill, the other near the dog beach
