While finishing dinner outdoors this evening at 8:50 pm I was startled to hear the call of a Common Nighthawk. It called at least four times before it went out of hearing range. The tree cover in our back yard obscures much of the sky so I ran out to the street to get a clearer view upwards, but by then it was gone.

This is only the third time I've seen or heard Nighthawk in my neighborhood in the past 16 years, and it is always in mid-June, but this is probably the earliest.
