Finished off a very pleasant "Swift Combo" presentation with Eric Horvath to the OBA in The Dalles last night. The plan was to spend the night in the back of the vehicle up off of Satus Pass listening for Owls. About 11 PM I heard what seemed to be a Flammulated, but it wasn't close enough to generate much excitement. But I might have gotten too close to someone's cannabis operation, which turned into a downhill race to Highway 97 on a very nasty dirt road, with shots being fired right after we made it to 97.

This was at 3400 feet which I thought was too high for that sort of thing. Apparently not. In 2004 the DEA removed 65,000
marijuana plants worth an estimated $35 million from a growing operation near..........Satus Pass.

Sometimes you get more adventure and excitement than you plan on.
