RARE BIRD ALERT for a LAPLAND LONGSPUR at Point Roberts, WA on June 16th and
17th; a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER on June 9th along the Grant Narrows nature
dyke at Pitt Lake; a GREAT EGRET on the west shoreline of Sea and Iona
Island on June 8th and 9th; and a VEERY on the Grant Narrows dyke on June
5th.





Sightings for Tuesday, June 18th



Another COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen in the Blueridge area of North Vancouver
(1900 block of Berkley Road).





Sightings for Monday, June 17th



The LAPLAND LONGSPUR at Point Roberts, WA was present for the second day in
a row.



Two COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were reported from Trout Lake in Vancouver.





Sightings for Sunday, June 16th



A female-plumaged LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen and photographed at Lighthouse
Marine Park in Point Roberts, WA. This bird should be in Alaska at this time
of year!



A LAZULI BUNTING and 4 TURKEY VULTURES were seen along 208th Street in the
Walnut Grove area of northwest Langley.



Birds seen in the Grant Narrows area included 3 MUTE SWANS (2 adults and a
cygnet), a LEAST FLYCATCHER, 3 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, 3 GRAY CATBIRDS, and 5
BULLOCK'S ORIOLES.



A hike along the Yew Lake trail at Cypress Provincial Park in West Vancouver
yielded 2 SOOTY GROUSE, 4 ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS, and 6 GRAY JAYS.



Another COMMON NIGHTHAWK was reported from the Dunbar area of Vancouver.





Sightings for Saturday, June 15th



A Nature Vancouver field trip to Pitt Lake produced at least 4 AMERICAN
REDSTARTS along the Pitt River dyke, and 10 GRAY CATBIRDS there and
elsewhere around Grant Narrows.





Sightings for Thursday, June 13th



Eight BLACK SWIFTS and a COMMON NIGHTHAWK were seen overhead in the
Pemberton Heights area of North Vancouver.



Three RED-EYED VIREOS were singing along the Poco Trail north of the Red
Bridge in Port Coquitlam, near the Coquitlam River-- a reliable spot for
this species.



At Grant Narrows, sightings included 2 MUTE SWANS, an AMERICAN BITTERN, 12
BLACK SWIFTS, and 4 GRAY CATBIRDS.





Sightings for Wednesday, June 12th



Birds reported from Grant Narrows and the Pitt Wildlife Management Area
included an AMERICAN BITTERN, 5 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, 2 AMERICAN REDSTARTS, 9
GRAY CATBIRDS, 8 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES, and a LAZULI BUNTING.





Sightings for Tuesday, June 11th



Birds reported from the east side of Colony Farm Regional Park in Coquitlam
included 5 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, one WESTERN KINGBIRD, one GRAY CATBIRD, and 3
LAZULI BUNTINGS.



Six BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS and 20 out-of-season WHIMBRELS were seen along the
Tsawwassen ferry jetty in Delta.





Sightings for Monday, June 10th



The GREEN HERON was seen again at the Hastings Park sanctuary pond in
Vancouver.



COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were reported from Grant Narrows, from the Walnut Grove
area of Langley, and from the Blueridge district of North Vancouver (2
birds).



Six EASTERN KINGBIRDS were seen at Colony Farm Regional Park (Coquitlam),
plus one near the Pitt Meadows airport. Also seen in the Grant Narrows area
at the south end of Pitt Lake were an AMERICAN REDSTART, a RED-EYED VIREO,
and a MUTE SWAN.







Sightings for Sunday, June 9th



A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, extremely rare in the area, was reportedly seen
along the Grant Narrows nature dyke.



The GREAT EGRET was seen again along the western shoreline of Sea Island, by
observers looking south from Iona Island and north from Terra Nova Park in
Richmond. Nearby were two SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS on Iona Island (a species
which has nested there previously) and an AMERICAN KESTREL on Templeton Road
on Sea Island.



Eight CHIPPING SPARROWS, a remarkable number, were reported from the
Richmond Country Club, off Steveston Highway in Richmond. This included one
newly-fledged young bird, which was photographed with an adult.





Sightings for Saturday, June 8th



A GREAT EGRET was seen and photographed along the shoreline at Iona Island
in Richmond.



Birds seen at and near the Grant Narrows boat launch at Pitt Lake included
an AMERICAN REDSTART, up to 10 GRAY CATBIRDS, 6 TURKEY VULTURES, and an
AMERICAN BITTERN.



Four LAZULI BUNTINGS, 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS, and a GRAY CATBIRD were seen at
Colony Farm Regional Park, on the west (Coquitlam) side.





Sightings for Friday, June 7th



Two SANDHILL CRANES were along 88th Avenue east of 176th Street in Surrey,
an unusual location.





Sightings for Thursday, June 6th



An AMERICAN REDSTART and at least 8 GRAY CATBIRDS were seen in the Grant
Narrows area, and another GRAY CATBIRD was at Colony Farm Regional Park in
Port Coquitlam.



The GREEN HERON was seen again by several observers at Hastings Park in
Vancouver.





Sightings for Wednesday, June 5th



A VEERY, an extremely rare species in the Vancouver area, was reported from
the Grant Narrows nature dyke at Pitt Lake. Also seen in the same area were
an AMERICAN REDSTART, an AMERICAN BITTERN, 2 SANDHILL CRANES, 5 MUTE SWANS,
and 2 out-of-season TRUMPETER SWANS.



A GREEN HERON was found at the Hastings Park sanctuary in Vancouver.



One WESTERN KINGBIRD was still at the west end of Deer Lake in Burnaby.





Sightings for Tuesday, June 4th



A female CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was reported from the Grant Narrows nature
dyke at the south end of Pitt Lake.



Two WESTERN KINGBIRDS were seen at the west end of Deer Lake in Burnaby.



A LAZULI BUNTING and 30 RED CROSSBILLS were at Deas Island Park in Delta.





Sightings for Sunday, June 2nd



Three BULLOCK'S ORIOLES were seen at Brydon Lagoon in Langley.





Sightings for Saturday, June 1st



Birds reported from the Grant Narrows area at Pitt Lake included an AMERICAN
REDSTART, 5 GRAY CATBIRDS, and a LEAST FLYCATCHER.



Single WESTERN KINGBIRDS were reported from the Maplewood Conservation Area
in North Vancouver, from Sea Island in Richmond, and from the North 40 dog
park near the Boundary Bay airport.



A RED-EYED VIREO was singing along the Houston Trail in Langley.



A BANK SWALLOW and a female REDHEAD were at the Iona Island sewage ponds in
Richmond, and an EASTERN KINGBIRD and an AMERICAN KESTREL were nearby on Sea
Island.



Two MUTE SWANS were reported from Deas Island Park in Delta.





Sightings for Friday, May 31st



Birds reported from Colony Farm Park in Port Coquitlam included 7 LAZULI
BUNTINGS and 20 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS.





Sightings for Thursday, May 30th



The FOY RED-EYED VIREO was reported from the Maplewood Conservation Area in
North Vancouver.



At Colony Farm Park in Port Coquitlam were 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS and 4
"pumping" AMERICAN BITTERNS.
