Saturday Karen and I had a great final day viewing Tufted Puffins at Haystack Rock (Cannon Beach).? Finally it was neither rainy nor foggy at low tide so we got a reasonably clear view of the puffins and Common Murres.? Low tide offers the closest approach to the rock...still far enough away that a scope is advised.? We shared our scope with many people, most of whom did not know that there were puffins?on Haystack and all of whom were 100% excited?and appreciative upon?seeing the puffins.? One young lady remembered reading about puffins in 4th grade.? She appeared to be in high school now.? Another noted that the puffins "have blonde pony tails".? One couple came all the way from Florida to see the puffins.? Upon looking through our scope one lady exclaimed that her life was now complete.? I became quite wary standing at the edge of the Pacific Ocean with someone whose life was complete!? I kept my eye out for a rogue wave!? Showing other
people the puffins and hearing their reactions was very rewarding.? Here is a photo of a puffin taking off from the rock.
