Today at 10:00 a Cassin's Auklet was observed about 500 feet from the picnic table just NW of the parking lot.? It was adjacent to one of the large barrel-shaped buoys (white-and orange), the one furthest to the north.? The bird sat on the water (i.e., without diving) for about 10 minutes, affording great looks through our spotting scopes.? When it finally dove, we did not see it resurface.? Also present was a pair of Harlequin Ducks, about 75 surf scoters, a half dozen Barrow's Goldeneyes, a pair of Common Goldeneyes, a horned grebe, a mew gull, glaucous-winged gulls, and American wigeons.
