Hi Everyone,

We ended February with a cumulative year list of 99 species. February
species of interest included a Western Gull (code 4), Peregrine Falcon
(code 3), Merlin (code 2), persistent sightings of the Northern Shrike
(code 3) and the continuing Red Crossbills (code 3) in public areas of
the Edmonds Bowl. Last week a swallow (sp.) was seen that the marsh.
Over the first March weekend a Herring Gull (code 4) was seen near the
public pier and one birder saw a Common Raven (code 3) in his
neighborhood.

This morning was chilly but sunny, so even though we are heading into
the March doldrums it was nice to be out. Birding was slow on the
Sound, with very few fly-bys. There were a couple of Canada Geese that
look to be nesting on one of the ferry dock dolphins, but no Brants
were around. Ducks included both Common and Barrow's Goldeneyes,
Bufflehead, and Surf Scoters. Both Double-crested and Pelagic
Cormorants were about as well as were Horned and Western Grebes. Eight
to ten Sanderlings were at rest at the south end of the marina
breakwater. Gulls included Mew, Glaucous-winged and hybrids. Alcids
seen were Pigeon Guillemots and diminishing numbers of Common Murres
and Rhinoceros Auklets. We didn't seen any loons this morning.

Around the marsh and Harbor Square we saw 3-4 Red Crossbills and a
large flock of Pine Siskins. We looked carefully but saw no redpolls
among them. Green-winged Teal and Killdeer were in the marsh. There
were a number of Yellow-rumped Warblers around. Anna's Hummingbird
numbers have picked up, both at the marsh and at the Point Edwards
public path. The Point Edwards pond had Gadwalls, Mallards, and Hooded
Mergansers this morning. Several Red-winged Blackbirds were singing.
The only raptor seen was one of the adult Bald Eagles.
