I was sitting in the garden rockery today and noticed that a very large
earthworm had crawled up and onto the path chips. It was actually well
camouflaged but not good enough to avoid the notice of a Robin. I was
actually clipping things and being active so the bird had no doubt that I
was there and it looked at the worm and then looked at me. I mentally
figured the worm was 2 feet from where I sat. The robin hopped up on a rock
and again looked at worm, me, worm, me. It was flicking its wings a bit
which I took to be a sign the bird was nervous. After a good 3 minutes, and
with me looking right at it, the robin made its move, swooped down and
snatched up the snack which it broke into pieces on the upper path a
comfortable six feet away.
