Greetings,

Yesterday, Kendrick and I spent a bit of time birding on Vashon Island, to continue our King County Small Year.

Many great birds, of course, but one nice surprise was a YELLOW-BILLED LOON. This was at a spot called Fern Cove. We were able to spend almost 30 minutes watching this bird through the scope. At times, a COMMON LOON would show up close to the Yellow-billed. This was a great opportunity for comparison of the two.

Lighting was quite good and the weather was near perfect throughout our time on the island, so we were able to get good views of most of the birds.

good birding,
