Denis speaks the truth, but just a note to add that it's printed by
Princeton Press as "Birds of Europe" in the U.S. but referred to as the
"Collins Bird Guide" in Europe in case you wait to purchase it. Same
beautiful artwork and range maps, just different covers (and the latter is
available in both paperback and hardcover).

It's an excellent guide. Be sure to look for the Second Edition.

I also recently purchased "Where to Watch Birds in Europe and Russia" by
Nigel Wheatley. It was printed in 2000 but is a helpful for finding
"off-the-track" birding areas in every country in Europe (though I haven't
put it entirely to test, unfortunately).
