Hi Tweeters & Inland-NW-Birders -

An updated version of the 2013 county year list project is up at Washington Birder. We've received updates from almost all the counties with details through the end of February. County compilers, especially for the underbirded counties, would appreciate receiving reports of any birds seen in their counties.

The posted version of the list only covers results through the beginning of March -- at this point, many counties are over 100 species with many/most of the winter species found. Now comes the big spring influx that will keep things interesting.

As of the end of February 255 species had been reported across the state, 228 species in western WA and 193 in eastern WA. The state total is one below the end-feb totals in 2012 and 2011, and the Western WA total has remained exactly the same now [at 228] for 3 straight years. This is particularly surprising given the rather arbitrary seasonal timing of this cut off date. Eastern WA [at 193] this year is a little ahead of its pace for the past two years - 5 better than 2012 and 1 better than 2011 -- Overall, though, things are remarkably similar to the last couple years at this stage.
