Today, Les Carlson, Jeff Jendro and I took advantage of the partly cloudy day and birded our way from the western border of Skamania County up the Gorge and over Dalles Mountain, in Klickitat County and back. In Skamania County, we found 53 species, the best being a HERMIT THRUSH and several pair of PURPLE FINCHES at the St. Cloud Recreation Area, 9 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at Skamania Landing and a surprising RING-NECKED PHEASANT in Carson. Our best of the 46 species seen in Klickitat County, were 2 GOLDEN EAGLES and a MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD on Dalles Mountain Road, and while driving down the mountain's north side there was a LONG-BILLED CURLEW on Ueker Road, . The total species count for the day was: 66. Wilson Cady
