I always say that I'm going to the bird sanctuary on Westham Island to photograph birds.
No one ever bats an eye, especially if I look them straight in the eye....and remove my sunglasses, hoodie, ammo belts, etc.

Man, glad to know that. The time they searched my car, Reifel was not even on my map. Although it was planned to go after I got photos of the Brambling. I suppose "shooting a few birds" would not be recommended either

For those of us who reside south of the border: I have been told by others that if you are asked about your visit to Canada by the Canadian border guards at the border crossing, don't mention the word "Reifel." They hear "rifle" and jump to the conclusion that you are bringing a weapon into Canada. Just tell them that you are coming to Canada to photograph birds.
