The birding gods have a cruel sense of humor. I was planning on taking part in the Marymoor bird walk this morning, but last night my car broke down at the 76 station on 148th & 24th (near Fred Meyer) in Bellevue. So this morning, instead of birding at Marymoor, I was working on my car in the parking lot of the 76 station, when I heard a quaint, melodic whistling coming from a tree at the north edge of the lot. I made note of this song as I was yanking the alternator out of my car, but because I was distracted, I passed it off as a mumbling House Finch. After about 10 minutes, my "birdy-sense" kicked in and it hit me that I was not listening to a House Finch at all! So looking up in the tree that was only 20 feet away, I saw a lonesome TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE, quietly singing, seemingly to himself...

Good migrations,
