On the subject of Yellow Shafted Flickers; for years I have had some of the hybrids, with a dash of the Yellow Shafted. Two days ago, I discovered a female fighting with another female Flicker, whose underwings were decidedly bright yellow/gold. I could not get good looks at the head of this beauty, but I am certain it would be a hybrid. I have kept watch for her, but since the one who won the fight, also won feeding and the male; I dunno if the Yellow/hybrid will be coming back around...The sad thing is I got really busy and had not filled my feeders.
