Hey Tweets! Completely stuck in the south end of the county during the week, watching the county life birds pile up in Magnuson Park! :D So I've been making a swing through the shorebird spots in Kent on the way home from work fairly regularly, especially during migration. I tried for the Stilts that Doug found this morning, and dipped, but I'm not convinced that I checked all of the right ponds, as there are quite a few wet areas there north of 200th. I've scanned them before, and haven't found much but ducks until today. A few dozen Least Sandpipers were using a puddle, got my attention, and I think I skipped over the pond with deeper water where the stilts may have been. Other highlights from the south end today: Renton Park: FOY Warbling Vireo and Pacific Slope Flycatcher. Also Black-throated Gray Warbler, and calling Hermit Thrush.Emerald Downs: swallows, blackbirds (no Yellow-headed), Shovelers, Pintails and Dunlin inside the track.M Street: Hundreds of peeps again - didn't scan them too carefully, but appeared to be a mix of Least and Western again.204th: 2 Long-billed Dowitchers continuing, a handful of Least Sandpipers, Killdeer and Greater Yellowlegs. Yesterday, I also stopped by a bit of mud off of 140th Avenue between Fairwood and Maple Valley Highway as well. It's not much, but the "habitat improvements" haven't covered up all of the good mud, so it's still the closest shorebird spot for me - 2 Killdeer and a single Least Sandpiper! Send some Whimbrels down this way, y'all? :D -Tim BrennanRenton
