Hi Tweeters,

Around 3:30 this afternoon (5/4/13) I entered Steamboat Slough Road from
the east end of Julia Butler Hansen NWR and birded to where the road is
blocked. The shorebirding was excellent by Wahkiakum County standards. On
the mud in the slough were hundreds of WESTERN SANDPIPERS joined by
numerous LEAST SANDPIPERS and about 25 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS. On the drying
ponds near the road block were 15 dowitchers which I took to be LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS due to the rufous all the way down the belly and extensive
rufous coloring on the backs. Also present with the dowitchers were 3
SANDERLINGS coming into breeding plumage. A very nice assortment for me at
this location.
