We had a really nice excursion to the North Jetty today, leaving Seattle at
5:30 and arriving at the jetty a little before 8. I had a Wilson's warbler
and a golden-crowned sparrow on the jetty rocks, and it just got better
from there. Saw ruddy turnstones (skedaddled before I could get the camera
out), black turnstones, pacific loons (in the water, scope views only),
surfbirds, and a first for me: a wandering tattler. There were also
flotillas of surf scoters and western grebes, and lots of mammals of
various sorts.

We stopped by Bowerman Basin on the way home, even though the tide was a
few hours past high. The highlight was the most impossibly yellow
goldfinch I've ever seen. It was just blazing. Common, maybe, but what a
cool bird.
