Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 9. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On May 3 a research ship 40-45 miles off Curry County recorded a HAWAIIAN
PETREL, a MOTTLED PETREL, and 20 MURPHY?S PETREL, along with several other
unidentified petrels. Also on May 3 a BAR-TAILED GODWIT passed Boiler Bay. A
GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE is now being seen at Frenchglen.

The peak of the spring migration apparently passed through during the first
week of May with heavy movements noted throughout the state.

On May 6 a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was at Yaquina Head north of Newport. An
AVOCET was seen May 5 on the Bayocean Spit at Tillamook Bay.

A CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD visited a North Portland feeder May 1. On May 2 a
LEWIS?S WOODPECKER was on Mt. Tabor in Portland. A SWAINSON?S HAWK was near
Mt. Tabor May 6. Another SWAINSON?S was over Salem the next day. Two
BLACK-NECKED STILTS were at Oaks Bottom in Portland May 3. During the week
17 WHITE PELICANS, a WILSON?S PHALAROPE, and a MARBLED GODWIT were at the
Tualatin NWR. Four WHIMBREL were there May 3. Three WHIMBRELS were seen May
2 at Finley NWR. On May 6 three WHITE-FACED IBIS were over Creswell. The
TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD colony at Fords Pond in Sutherlin appears to be active
again this year.

On May 6 a WHITE-FACED IBIS was near Culver in Central Oregon. A GREEN HERON
was seen May 7 at Sawyer Park in Bend.

That?s it for this week.
