Beth -- as far as being late to your appointment, at least you have your prio rities straight!!? :-)

Hi Tweeters,

Work had me going over to Camano Island today and as I was traveling west past Stanwood I caught an odd sight in the field next to the Lutheran Church. A flock of large size brownish birds foraging in the grass. I wasn't able to stop on my way to the Island but on my way back I pulled into the mostly empty Church parking lot next to the field. Pulled out my binoculars and to my surprise there were 137 ( yes, I counted them) Whimbrels! I have never seen so many at one time and was even more astounded at the location. They foraged for another 15 minutes before some unknown something stirred them and they flew off in the direction or Port Susan Bay. What a day to leave my camera at home. I took a photo with my I-phone but they were far enough away to just look like brown spots in the green grass.

I love migration surprises! Alas, I was late for an appointment in Bellingham.

Happily birding,
