Greettings all,
There is still space available on this weekends upcoming seabirds trip out of Westport. Spring can be an exciting time offshore, and given the recent change in weather, who knows what might be about. Although never common and far from a guarantee, this is the best time of the year to search for the elusive Murphy's Petrel ( 7 seen on the May 2011 trip). There have been a number of reports to the south of us from both cruise and research ships, and this may be a decent year for that species. More tantalizing still have been several spring reports of Hawaiian Petrel, although these have been further south. Even without rarities this can be a good time to search from species such as Arctic Tern and breeding plumage Tufted Puffin. This years April trip recorded good numbers of Leaches Petrels offshore as well. If interested, check out Westportseabirds.com or contact Phil and Chris Anderson at pmand001 at comcast.net or (360) 268-9141. Hope to see some of you offshore.
