Lazer light pens are very useful tools in dense forest and jungle locations. Get people to follow the dot from your shoe right up to the bird. Don't shine the light directly on the bird and do not shine it at peoples faces or at aircraft even thousands of feet up - it is a distraction. I have been on guided tours in Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Papua New Guenia over the past several years and all of the guids used them carefully and thought. If you take one then take 2 or 3 for gifts to guides or helpers and always have spare batteries.

This reader of the tweeters postings might consider use of a laser pen light to be rather cruel and maybe not needed. The flash from them causes much distress in the field of air traffic and shining them on aircraft in our area is highly dangerous and illegal. Surely you could be satisfied by what you could see with your naked eye or binoculars. Try using your ears and other senses instead.
The reliance on technology is leading toward very lazy birding, if you ask my opinion.
