Comments: Sharon Aagaard and Stan Wood birded with 9 others at Eastside Audubon's monthly bird walk at Lake Sammamish State Park on November 5, 2013, from 8 am to noon. The birds were relatively quiet on this misty, blustery 4 hour bird walk. Cloudy, drippy skies, 10-12 mph winds, with temps 47-54 degrees F. With the exception of Wood Duck, Common Goldeneye and Common Merganser, we saw all the wintering ducks and grebes. HIGHLIGHTS: 2 CANVASBACK males; 6 NORTHERN SHOVELERS; 3 GREEN-WINGED TEALS; 5 RING-NECKED DUCKS; 1 GREATER SCAUP; 12 BUFFLEHEADS; 4 HOODED MERGANSERS; 3 HORNED GREBES; only 4 WESTERN GREBES; 1 perched and wet COOPER'S HAWK; 5 very wet YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS (Audubon); and 6 also wet PURPLE FINCH. The 3 Swan Geese continue with an attitude and appear healthy (Ken first spotted them last Sept). 48 species for the day; 116 species for the year. The next bird walk is DECEMBER 18. No pre-registration, just show up depending on your mood or the weather. Since this is a state park, a Discover Pass is necessary to park ($10 daily, $30 annual). We meet in the large parking lot to the left just inside the main park entrance (not the boat launch entrance).
48 species
