Subject: [Tweeters] Purchase of nearly 97, 000 acres of forest,

Feeling sad as I read the morning paper.
Muckleshoot Tribe has purchased nearly 97,000 acres of forest in my neck
of the woods. According to what my husband Mark could tell, the purchase
cuts DEEPLY into Federation Forest, one of our favorite places for hiking.
This is the area I found my recent Barred Owl which I photographed in
October. (of course I know the Barred Owl is a serious threat to the
Spotted, but that won't matter in this area now?)
They were financed by Hancock Natural Resources. the link
http://enet-vip.jhancock.com/hnrg/ gives the full name of the portion that
is financing this. Hancock Timber Resources?.
To me, this is really sad, as I have gotten reports for a number of years
about the young spotted owls spending fall and parts of the winter in this
area. Twice they asked me to do a bird survey in a huge part of this
forest, and I turned them down both times.
Boy, do I regret that now?.
On a good note, I did see what appeared to be my first winter Eared Grebe
on Lake Tapps, as I turned into our culdesac. The Trumpeter Swans should
be showing up soon?
