Hi All

I arrived at Marymoor this morning about 7:30 and Scott Ramos was already at
the compost piles (at Lot G) and had seen the Clay-colored Sparrow. He said
it was moving around quite a bit. We worked the piles over for about 10
minutes and the bird popped up over by the observation hill, then moved down
a ways and perched on some thistles. Still very dark and gray, but we got
definitely identifiable looks. Scott got a couple of pictures and I got
"record" shots. The bird then flew to the north and out of sight. A few
minutes later it came in to land on one of the sticks above the piles of
junk, but was chased by a Song Sparrow and went down on the west side of the
piles. I wandered around and got a brief look before it took off to the
east. On going around the piles it was seen on some sticks in the
blackberries to the east of the dirt road around the piles.

As I watched it flew directly toward me and down onto the road. Both Scott
and I got excellent views (it was much lighter then) and some photos then
(it was quite close to Scott). It was with some Golden-crowned and Song
Sparrows and the whole flock flushed into the blackberries.

We left then and told new people arriving that the bird was around and they
needed to be patient - look for a small bird (about Lincoln's Sparrow size)
with a clear white breast, light gray back and nice face pattern.

While Scott and I were at the Compost piles we saw: Golden-crowned,
White-crowned, Song, Fox, Lincoln's, Savannah, Dark-eyed Junco, Spotted
Towhee in addition to the Clay-colored. A nine sparrow day at the piles -
pretty good start to the day. Later in the day we saw, and heard, a
White-throated Sparrow out near the north access to the Crescent Lake area
off Tualco Loop Rd. 10 Sparrows for the day!

Excellent day (with lots of other birds).
